Position Summary

The Facilities Manager assures optimal functioning of the parish’s building and grounds in support of the Pastor’s initiatives and decisions regarding the operation of the parish.



• Primary contact for contractors and other vendors as it relates to facilities management.

• Under direction of Pastor and/or Business Manager, obtain bids on projects as requested.

• Provide input into annual budget and periodic forecasts as it pertains to facility maintenance costs. • Responsible for security of parish grounds, contacting Pastor, Business Manager and local police department when needed as result of damage or vandalism to grounds.

• Assure optimal functioning of building systems, including fire/life, HVAC, boilers, lighting, mechanical and plumbing in all parish facilities.

• Oversee and perform maintenance service and repairs in the areas of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, masonry and painting.

• Ensure parish machinery is well maintained and that maintenance procedures are followed.

• Support snow removal needs to ensure safe conditions for parishioners, parish staff and school personnel, children and visitors. This includes weekends when needed.

• With Business Manager and/or Pastor approval, purchase materials required for facility and grounds upkeep.

Project Management

• Manages Parish projects – capital and operating – as it pertains to facilities and maintenance.

• Oversees set up and take down of parish functions and events.

• Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Maintenance Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Maintain equipment and tools in good working order.

• Keep working areas neat and orderly.

• Maintain an accurate inventory of tools and equipment in the workshop.

• Conduct a walk-through of the building once a day to make sure all lights, smoke detectors, doors, hallways, windows, etc., are in good condition. Report any major issues to the Pastor and/or Business Manager. Conduct repairs.

• Schedule annual inspections of sprinkler systems, HVAC, boilers, etc.

• Schedule annual reviews/walk throughs by the Oak Park Fire Department and Health Department.

• Maintain all bathrooms in good working order at all times.

• Maintain all water fountains in good working order at all times.

• Keep stairwells clear of boxes, debris, machinery, etc. at all times.

• Keep cleaning supplies and chemicals in locked closets at all times.

• Disinfect the church, all door handles, et al, and Murphy Hall bathrooms after the

• weekday morning mass, weddings and funerals as needed.

• Replace light fixtures and lightbulbs throughout the buildings as needed.

• Replace batteries in smoke detectors throughout the building as needed.

• Replace outlets throughout the building as needed.

• Replace screens in windows throughout the building as needed.

• Follow asbestos regulations.

• Contact and schedule outside contractors for repairs that cannot be completed in house.

• Schedule and coordinate with pest control.

• On call for emergencies.

• Meet regularly with the Pastor (schedule to be determined).


Certification/licensure or Associate degree in technical field or equivalent professional experience over the course of many years.

• Knowledgeable in procedures and safety measures of facilities and grounds management.

• Basic knowledge and experience in plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing and electrical.

• Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand tools used on the job.

• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate to others in writing.

• Ability to communicate in spoken and written English.

• Familiarity with basic PC skills, email, internet and Microsoft products.

• Valid driver’s license.

Mental and Physical Essential Job Functions

• Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions

• Climb ladders and stairs, as necessary, including accessing roof structures.
